Need

The Etowah Watershed is currently experiencing rapid development pressure. In addition to legal controls on development, there also is an opportunity for a reward-based program to encourage watershed friendly development practices.

Goal

Our goal is to provide incentives to promote watershed friendly development in the Etowah watershed through a reward-based program.

Objectives

Develop a vision for future development in the Etowah Watershed
Educate people to watershed friendly practices
Develop a watershed development award

Activities

Overall activity: Create a user's manual for the Etowah Watershed Development Award

  • Research watershed friendly practices
  • Prioritize practices in terms of which ones we want to encourage
  • Envision the Etowah Watershed if everyone won our award - create a vision statement, find a picture or image that represents the vision
  • Develop award philosophy - come up with mission statement
  • Create a weighted checklist of practices that reflect our philosophy
  • Make technical information easy to understand and feasible
  • Develop market plan
