River Basin Center: Etowah Initiative

In many communities, development rules prohibit the use of better site design concepts. Better site design is a sustainable approach to development. The goals of better site design are to reduce impervious surfaces, conserve natural areas, and prevent stormwater pollution. For this project, students will:

Examine existing development laws, regulations and policies for the Etowah counties
Evaluate how these stack up against the principles of better site design
Make recommendations to improve development laws, regulations, and policies
Prepare outreach materials on better site design

The client in this case is the Lake Allatoona Preservation Authority (LAPA) and your major contact will be UGA PhD student Erin Dreelin (edreelin@arches.uga.edu) who is coordinating LAPA's BMP Evaluation portion of the US Army Corps of Engineers Allatoona Project Management Plan.
