Alternative Futures Analysis Case Studies & Tools for Visualizing Quality Urban Growth (PDF)

This project focuses on the Etowah river basin, a nine county area to the northwest of Atlanta, Georgia, which is home to several species of federally endangered fish and aquatic invertebrates. As this area continues to grow, there is a need for a vision of regional growth, which protects aquatic resources while continuing to allow for economic development.

We will conduct a literature review of studies, which have used visualization tools to model community growth on a regional scale. This project will provide a framework for choosing the tools that will be necessary for regional growth modeling in the Etowah basin. Results from this project will be used to guide the habitat conservation plan (HCP) design process, and lay the groundwork for a public education tool to be used by the Etowah Outreach Coordinator. The end product of this research will provide the Habitat Conservation Plan Technical Committee with a set of recommendations specific to the needs of the Etowah basin.
