The Lake Allatoona Preservation Authority has an office and tiny dorm
on Lake Allatoona which they use for some meetings (their main office
is in downtown Acworth) and educational activities. They want to build
a scale model (encompassing 5 or 6 acres) of the Upper Etowah watershed
down to Allatoona dam on this site. Their idea is to integrate the geography,
biology, possible threats to the watershed and solutions, and history
into the model, with the Etowah and its major tributaries and the walkways
(or the river and its tributaries could be depicted by actual watercourses
with walkways depicting the major roads), using plants, signs and other
objects to represent cities/towns, animals, history, etc. Their desire
is for people to be able to walk through the watershed and learn what
it is, how it is important to them and how they can become involved in
protecting it.
