Feral pigs, escapees from domestic herds, are known to root up sea turtle eggs, feed on ground-nesting animals of all kinds. Their most pervasive impact may be on acorns and seedling liveoaks. On Ossabaw Island, for example, feral hogs along with deer have nearly eliminated live oak seedlings. Hogs are usually controlled by combinations of trapping (photo of box trap) and hunting with trained dogs.
