American Swallow-tailed Kite, Elanoides forficatus
Although still common in much of the tropics, this strikingly marked, small hawk has declined in recent years in the southeastern U.S. in response to habitat loss. It prefers mature bottomland swamps for breeding. At least several pairs of this species bred in 1993 in the Altamaha River basin; they were noted on ten quads in five counties.
