leed model ordinance

Katie Miller, Lydia Doyle, and Leigh Engen

This project is designed to create a model ordinance for the state of Georgia that will help local governments encourage or require developers to build environmentally sensitive buildings. This model ordinance has been requested by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs. The model ordinance will focus on the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system, but may incorporate aspects from other environmentally-friendly building guidelines. The model ordinance will include an introductory component that discusses minimum state building codes, the history and background of the LEED system, and the legal justification for the model ordinance. The model ordinance will be designed to promote environmentally-friendly development while being sensitive to economic concerns of developers and the entities constructing such buildings.
