Tuesday, August 16, 2005 New environmental initiative involving UGA and 52 Georgia counties to be announced by EPA and EPD Athens , Ga. - A new environmental initiative involving 52 Georgia counties, the first of its kind in the nation, will be announced on Monday, Aug. 22, by the heads of the federal and state agencies involved in its development. James I. Palmer Jr., regional administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 4, which serves eight states in the Southeast, and Carol Couch, director of Georgia's Environmental Protection Division, will release details of the initiative at a news conference that will include the University of Georgia's Institute of Ecology River Basin Center directors Laurie Fowler and C. Ronald Carroll. The event will take place at 10 a.m. at the EPA Region IV headquarters, Sam Nunn Atlanta Federal Center, 61 Forsyth Street, S.W., Atlanta, Ga., 30303-3104.
