Climate Change
Sea Level Rise on Georgia's Coast
The River Basin Center received a Coastal Incentive Grant
from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Coastal Resources Division in 2008
to study the impacts of climate change on Georgia's coastal communities. The 3-year project, led by RBC Urban Ecologist Tim Carter, will evaluate sea level rise scenarios in Georgia and their implications for areas of projected growth. The
UGA Center for Remote Sensing and Mapping Science,
The Georgia Conservancy and Glynn County are partnering with the RBC in this effort.
Stormwater
In 2007 and 2008, the River Basin Center worked on coastal stormwater issues centering on the development of a supplement to the Georgia Stormwater Management Manual (GSMM). The completed Coastal Stormwater Supplement to the GSMM is available at http://www.georgiastormwater.com/.
Also available is an EXCEL SPREADSHEET to ensure a project's consistency with the Coastal Stormwater Supplement: http://www.box.net/shared/static/al69icbt6p.xls
RBC and its partners on the coast have also developed a guidebook for creating a stormwater utility for coastal communities.
Stormwater Utility Handbook: A Step-by-Step Guide to Establishing a Utility in Coastal Georgia, Sept. 2008, Timothy L. Carter. Funding for this report was provided in part by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Environmental Protection Division, through a grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency under the provisions of Section 319(h) of the Federal Clean Water Act of 1987, as amended.
