service and outreach impacts of climate change on coastal communities The River Basin Center received a Coastal Incentive Grant from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Coastal Resources Division in 2008 to study the impacts of climate change on Georgia's coastal communities. The 3-year project, led by RBC Urban Ecologist Tim Carter, will evaluate sea level rise scenarios in Georgia and their implications for areas of projected growth. The UGA Center for Remote Sensing and Mapping Science, The Georgia Conservancy and Glynn County are partnering with the RBC in this effort.
Events at UGA will include panel discussions; an art exhibition; dance performances; music; an address by Janisse Ray, author of Ecology of a Cracker Childhood; and the annual UGA Charter Lecture "Changing Climate: Where Energy and Global Warming Meet" by Dennis Dimick, Executive Editor of National Geographic Magazine.
