To reduce erosion and protect our water resources in Georgia, the Erosion and Sedimentation Act of 1975 (OCGA 12-7) was amended in 2003.

The US EPA has listed soil erosion and sedimentation as one of the biggest threats to our nation's rivers, lakes, and ponds. Due to our land disturbing activities, the United States loses more than 2 billion tons of topsoil each year to erosion (USDA).
