legal research, service and outreach
The River Basin Center conducts legal research into land use and water
issues at the request of state and local government and other stakeholders,
and offers several opportunities for service learning.
Staff Attorney
The River Basin Center's Staff Attorney researches federal, state and local laws that affect land use and natural resource protection policies, drafts memoranda, writes model ordinances, and assists with the Environmental Law for Scientists course.
Land Use Clinic
The Land
Use Clinic provides tools and research assistance to help local governments,
state agencies, landowners, and non-profit organizations develop quality
land use and growth management policies and practices, while giving UGA
law students an opportunity to develop practical skills and substantive
knowledge of land use law and policy.
Service Learning
The Altamaha,
Etowah, Satilla, and Upper Altamaha Environmental
Practicum courses provide graduate students in ecology, environmental
design, forestry, and law with the opportunity to work with stakeholders
in these river basins to develop policies to protect the river system
and associated natural resources.
Environmental
Law for Scientists offers students the opportunity to learn while
helping stakeholders solve real legal problems.
