water at UGA

UGA is in the Upper Oconee River Watershed. Several streams flow through or next to main campus into the Middle Oconee River, including Trail Creek, Tanyard Creek and Lily Branch (also known as Stinky Creek).

UGA is the largest user of water from the Athens-Clarke County municipal water supply which comes primarily from the Bear Creek Reservoir and the Middle Oconee River - both of which are at historically low levels in recent years. See USGS stream data.

Waste water goes through the Athens-Clarke County treatment plant near Riverbend Road before re-entering the Middle Oconee River.
